Reflection and evaluation:
How well have you completed the tasks? Have you pushed yourself?
I completed the tasks to the best of my ability given the constraints and pushed myself significantly to adapt to unexpected challenges. Despite only having one day to film due to my friends' availability and my health issues, I managed to coordinate everyone effectively and make efficient use of the limited time. This required quick thinking and problem-solving, ensuring that we still captured all the necessary footage.

How are they going to help you carry out the task?
These experiences will help me carry out future tasks more efficiently by enhancing my ability to adapt to changing circumstances and unexpected issues. Learning to work under pressure and make quick adjustments has strengthened my project management skills. Additionally, understanding the importance of flexibility in planning and execution will allow me to handle similar situations more effectively in the future.

What new knowledge, experience, or skills have you developed or improved throughout the process, and how will it impact future work?
One of the notable new things I learned during this project was about incorporating a bar title. It was a new concept for me, and I found it particularly valuable in providing context about the interviewee to the audience. In future interview projects, having this skill will enhance the professionalism and in formativeness of our productions.

How well did you work as a team?
Our team worked exceptionally well together. My friends and my dad cooperated fully, following my directions and contributing their efforts with patience and understanding. This collaborative environment made the filming process smooth and efficient, demonstrating the value of clear communication and teamwork in achieving our goals.

How well did you plan?
I planned thoroughly, initially scheduling multiple filming sessions over two weeks. However, due to my friends' unavailability and me being ill , we had to deviate from the original plan and film everything in one day. This experience highlighted the need for flexibility in planning and the importance of having contingency plans to accommodate unexpected changes. While the initial plan was solid, the ability to adapt was crucial. Moving forward, I will incorporate more flexible scheduling and backup plans to ensure that unforeseen circumstances do not derail the entire project. This experience has taught me the importance of over-communicating and continuously checking in with all team members to ensure everyone is aligned and any potential issues are addressed early on. Furthermore, I learned the value of setting realistic goals and timeframes, considering the potential for unforeseen disruptions, to create a more resilient and adaptable project plan.

Any problems encountered? How did you solve them?
One major problem was the camera screen being completely black, which made it difficult to capture the footage correctly. Initially, I tried adjusting the brightness on the camera itself, but this did not resolve the issue. I then decided to address this problem in post-production by brightening the footage in Adobe Premiere Pro. This solution allowed me to salvage the footage and ensure it met the necessary quality standards. Additionally, I learned the importance of performing thorough equipment checks before shooting and having spare equipment or backup plans for technical issues. Moreover, this highlighted the need for continuous learning and staying updated with equipment functionality to prevent similar issues in the future.

What do you still need to improve on?
I need to improve my technical skills with the camera, particularly understanding its functionalities and troubleshooting potential issues. This knowledge will enable me to quickly identify and fix problems during filming, reducing the reliance on post-production adjustments. Additionally, enhancing my planning skills to include more robust contingency plans will help ensure smoother project execution in the future. I also aim to improve my ability to pre-visualize scenes and plan shots more meticulously to maximize efficiency on set. Furthermore, I will focus on better understanding lighting techniques and their impact on different settings to enhance the visual quality of my projects. By continuing to learn and practice these skills, I will be better prepared to handle a wider range of production scenarios and deliver higher-quality work.

Evaluation:
AO1:
I chose to produce a documentary on the multifaceted world of dance due to its cultural significance and the compelling personal stories it offers. Dance is a universal language that transcends barriers, making it an ideal subject to explore themes of artistic expression and cultural diversity. This choice allowed me to focus on mastering technical skills in sound editing, lighting, and colour grading, which are crucial for producing a visually aesthetic film.

The use of documentary conventions such as B-roll and interviews enhances the narrative and engages the audience. The opening B-roll of a girl walking and opening a door serves as an entry point into the documentary, symbolizing the audience's introduction to the world of dance. This visual metaphor sets the tone and piques interest right from the start. Interview styles will vary from formal sit-downs to more casual, on-the-go conversations to capture authentic, diverse perspectives on dance. My target audience includes teenagers and adults who appreciate the arts and are curious about different cultural expressions. The documentary's appeal lies in its educational content and aesthetic presentation, ensuring it resonates with viewers on both an intellectual and visual level. Primary and secondary research, such as researching bar titles, LED lighting, and transitions, has significantly informed my understanding of effective storytelling and visual enhancement techniques.

Practical action research and pre-production tasks, including experimenting with different lighting setups and editing software, have honed both my hard skills (technical proficiency) and soft skills (creative problem-solving and project management).
A02:
Reflecting on the research and media examples I've examined; they were helpful in shaping my project ideas. Initially, the brief focused on hobbies, leading me to consider both dance and gaming. Dance, a personal passion I engage in daily, stood out as the more accessible and original choice. Although a documentary on mobile gaming seemed appealing, it posed significant challenges regarding originality and potential plagiarism, as it involved showcasing someone else's intellectual property. This insight helped refine my focus towards dance, ensuring the content was uniquely mine and easily accessible. The documentary's concept centers on my personal journey with dance, tracing the origins of my passion and the shared experience with friends as we mastered a new dance together. This approach not only preserves our collective memories but also highlights the camaraderie and dedication involved. By incorporating interviews with my friends, we delve into their perspectives on dance, its impact on our lives, and the art form itself. This dynamic narrative structure aims to provide an engaging and enriching viewing experience.
In contrast, the mobile gaming idea focused on a game I play with my friends and boyfriend during leisure time. Although this concept offered interesting insights into casual gaming's role in our lives, it lacked the depth and originality of the dance documentary. Moreover, gaming on mobile devices, while convenient, doesn't evoke the same rich, cultural storytelling potential that dance does. I realized that a dance documentary would allow me to showcase and develop technical skills more effectively. It also aligns better with my target audience of teenagers and adults, offering an aesthetically pleasing and culturally enriching narrative. The final idea of a dance documentary stood out due to its potential to develop my skills in sound editing, lighting, and color grading, and its ability to showcase my knowledge of media and documentary conventions. This choice enables me to present a visually captivating and emotionally resonant story that appeals to a broad audience, celebrating both the art of dance and the technical prowess behind film production.

A03:
The most effective action research involved testing LED lights and camera transitions. These elements were crucial in exploring my ideas and enhancing the documentary's visual appeal. Researching and experimenting with LED lights allowed me to create different moods and atmospheres that complemented the narrative of the dance documentary. Understanding camera transitions helped me maintain a smooth flow and dynamic storytelling, keeping the audience engaged. These activities significantly impacted my outcomes and audience. By gaining knowledge about LED lighting, I could ensure scenes were well-lit, highlighting the dancers' movements and expressions. This technical proficiency made filming easier and more efficient, ensuring high-quality footage.

Camera transitions helped me craft a cohesive and visually interesting documentary, enhancing the viewer's experience and maintaining their interest. These techniques improved the quality of my work by ensuring that each shot was visually captivating and technically sound. They also helped me achieve the documentary's purpose of showcasing the beauty of dance while demonstrating my skills in sound editing, lighting, and color grading. I was comprehensive in testing techniques and processes, experimenting with various lighting setups and transition effects to see what worked best for different scenes. This experimentation was crucial in developing and refining my ideas, allowing me to identify the most effective ways to convey the story and emotions of the dancers. Through this process, I was able to create a polished and professional documentary that effectively communicated my vision and engaged my target audience of teenagers and adults.

AO4:
Researching both mobile gaming and dance was effective in generating numerous ideas by exploring different themes and storytelling approaches. Understanding the cultural and social aspects of each hobby provided a diverse range of narrative possibilities. Group discussions and audience research were pivotal. The form results confirmed adults and teenagers as a suitable target audience, with many expressing interests in a dance documentary. Peer feedback specifically advised against the mobile gaming idea, citing accessibility issues and suitability concerns. This feedback was instrumental in refining my focus on dance, ensuring the documentary was engaging, original, and resonant with my target audience.

AO5:
Ongoing reflection and evaluation have been crucial to my work and progress, enabling continuous improvement and adaptation. For example, I initially planned to use a hand grip or shoulder mount to prevent wobbliness and shakiness in my footage, as reflected on the website. However, during filming, I found that these tools did not provide the stability I needed. Reflecting on this issue, I decided to use a hair trolley as an improvised dolly, placing the camera on top. This adjustment significantly reduced shakiness when moving the camera forwards and backwards, resulting in much smoother and more professional footage. This practical solution improved the overall visual quality of the documentary, making it more enjoyable for the audience. Additionally, audience research indicated a strong preference for personal stories and cultural insights. This led me to include more in-depth interviews with my friends, focusing on their individual experiences and the cultural significance of dance. This reflective practice ensured that the documentary remained engaging and relevant to the target audience of teenagers and adults.
