I aim for this documentary to be educational for people who don't dance or do dance but trying out the genre I dance to.
- What's the purpose and who your audience could be.
My target audience would be teens and young adults because they would understand the documentary better than children or anyone else.

For this project, I would like it to have a better sound editing since in the previous project I have done, I could have done it better.

inspirations:

In this documentary, they have incorporated multiple perspectives by interviewing various individuals, including employees and customers. This approach inspired me to enhance the richness of my own documentary by including my friends, who share my passion for dance, in the interviews. By incorporating multiple viewpoints, I aim to create a more engaging and multifaceted narrative, departing from a singular point of view.
In this documentary, they depart from conventional interview techniques. Rather than employing a standard question-and-answer format, they engage in spontaneous dialogue, fostering a more organic exchange. Instead of opting for a singular focus, the filming of interview scenes embraces diverse angles, fostering a more dynamic visual narrative. This innovative approach has sparked inspiration within me to adopt similar methods in my own documentary filmmaking endeavours.

Idea discussion:

Videos from our practice (preview):

This documentary’s idea focuses on my personal experience with dance, leading back to the origins of my passion. When my friends and I became engaged in mastering a new dance, I realized that this was the perfect chance to film our shared experience. By capturing our shared passion for dance in a documentary, this documentary not only preserves our collective memories but also celebrates the camaraderie and commitment with learning the dance. Through interviews with my friends, we explore their perspectives on the dance practice, their thoughts on the art form itself, and the impact it has had on our lives. By weaving together our narratives, the documentary aims to offer a dynamic and enjoyable portrayal of our collective dance journey, ensuring an enriching viewing.
This idea is about a mobile game that I play with my friends and my bf when I'm bored. I thought of Interviewing him since he knows a lot about the game and I also thought of interviewing my parents since they played this before me. Not as rather a gaming session, but as a quick break from responsibilities and duties. Where for other games, you sit down at a console or PC, subconsciously performing intricate patterns etc, playing on a phone is as simple as just clicking buttons. Playing games on an iPad or a phone also still reminds us that we have other matters to attend to. Even though we're playing games, we're playing on a device that we primarily use for other matters, not purely just gaming. We can still have fun, spending a bit of spare time on a game, yet its entire concept still reminds us of other things we have to take important time to.
Project needs:
Equipment needs:
-
camera
-
tripod
-
lighting (LED)
-
microphone
Set/location & timing needs:
the location that I will need/use is the practice room for the dance and I could use that room for interviewing my friends. If I don't have time to interview myself, I could rent out a classroom so that I could interview myself.
Contributor needs (eg I need someone who loves climbing):
I would need my friends to do some interview about why it is interesting and why we do it.
Budget/other:
I just need the bus to get to the practice room and the college.
Audiences (how/why suitable):
My target audience are individuals my age (teenagers) because there are lots of teenagers that like dancing and they could understand it better than younger people since they might not understand it yet.
Advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages: (dancing)
-
It's accessible since me and my friends are practicing for it now.
-
I can interview them about dancing
-
lots of b-roll of us dancing
Disadvantages: (dancing)
-
Most of the time our schedules doesn't match and we can end up not practicing that much.
-
there's lot of variety of dance to think about.
-
the timing of when the actual show is to when we're supposed to film
Advantages: (gaming)
-
Its accessible since it's just on my phone
-
I can interview my bf who plays with me and knows the game a lot more than me
-
I can also interview my family members since they've played this game way before me.
Disadvantages: (gaming)
-
I would be copying someone else's work if I just screen record myself playing since I didn't create this game, if it was about why it is my hobby, it can work.
-
I would have to get the train so that I can get an interview.
-
there's not much to talk about.
Final reflection:
After discussing my ideas with someone, the second idea I thought of wouldn't be that interesting and the audience could find it boring. It is easy access since it is just on your phone and it is another persons work if I just screen record myself playing. Lastly, there wont be that much of a variety when talking about this game. With the dancing idea, it's just the timing of the recording and the actual show is a problem. I can ask them to practice another dance with me so that I can do lots of footage so it won't be a problem. I can do lots of interview with my friends about what they think about dance, why they do it, and etc. It's also accessible since we're practicing for it now. So, the Final idea I'm going to choose is the dancing one.
